2) type PS and click on the enter button
3) identify the NTP process : on my machine it was 782, in the post it was 787, so be careful it varies. the process is easy to identifies, it have NTP in it and the time zone in wich you are

You are probably silly like me and went and purchased Vista didn’t you? You’re probably swearing allot if again, like me, you’ve purchased a creative sound card for your PC.
2 very dull moves since Creative and Vista are both significant pieces of shit, lesson learned, let’s try to live with our mistakes.

Here’s a few things I’ve done to fix the snap, crackle, pop that comes with the onslaught of drivers combos that don’t work with Vista. Chances are you’ve got to this point because you’ve noticed that Creative’s latest drivers, combined with Vista does not let you properly have 5.1 audio. So you’ve had to dig and dig to finally find the hacked ones that do enable proper 5.1 sound.

Here’s what I did.

First try this:
Mute all levels: Line in, line in 2, mic, mic 2, aux, aux 2 and whatever else you don’t need.

Next, open creative’s audio console, make sure 5.1 speakers are chosen ( or whatever your speakers are ), change stuff till the crackling stops.

Still no go ? Turn CMSS off

That should do it… If not, uninstall everything, delete all things creative, shut down. Remove your card, reboot. Shut down, put your card in a different slot, reboot. Install drivers.

Good luck and always remember this lesson you’ve learned.

Cheers.

So you design websites?
You have clients who’s sites are all messed up because they’re stuck in good old buggy IE6 ?
You’ve made the giant mistake of upgrading to Vista with IE7 and the standalone versions of the old browsers no longer work?

Welcome to my world and the world of many other disgruntled folk stuck in a lackluster Windows clustermuck of buggy shit software.

Well the kind gentle folk over at MS gave us a free way for us to keep testing their shit software. Thanks to the blog over at

http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2007/04/17/ie7-virtual-pc-image-and-ie6-virtual-pc-image-refresh.aspx

First you gotta download a virtual PC

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/virtualpc/default.mspx

Then you must download the actual image 450 Megs so hope you have a good net connection…

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=21EABB90-958F-4B64-B5F1-73D0A413C8EF&displaylang=en

Go bake a cake

Install both respectively

Note the image above expires in July 2008 for some reason…

Now open Microsoft Virtual PC, go next until you see options
Select “Create a virtual Machine”
Click Next and Next again to accept the default operating system selection of Other
You can accept the default RAM allocation or lower the setting to 96MB. Setting the RAM quota below 32MB is not recommended.
Click next. Specify that you wish to use an Existing virtual hard disk and then click Next again
Browse for and select the inflated Virtual Hard Disk file from the download package. Do not enable Undo Disks. Click Next to continue
Click Finish to complete the Wizard

You may need to do this if you are running WAMP and having problems.

I’ve been a Windows user for years, since the 3.1 days and have endured years of painful blue screens, ugly user interface and shady usability. Despite all this I was a Windows Fanboy and always thought Mac sucked, because it did indeed suck and it’s users where considered pompus douches with elitest attitudes. Well that all changed, well all but the elitist pompusness. (Think I just called myself a pompus douchebag…)

Apple has concentrated their efforts exclusively on design and usability, which I do for a living so perhaps this is why I feel myself being converted to the “bright side”. When launching my own company, I felt it was necessary to test my applications on all platforms so was compelled to purchase a Mac. What started as test machine quickly became my full time work machine as I was left dumbfounded by OSX’s pure awesomeness. During the transition from Mac hater to Mac lover, here’s where I found myself weighing the pros and cons of the 2 latest Operating systems.

Windows Vista

PROS

Looks better then XP

Has “borrowed” many nice features from Mac OS which makes it more user friendly

Has media center which can be controlled from other pc’s and even your Xbox so you can share music, movies and pictures across your home network

More secure then XP

Has a great picture browser / slideshow function

Has a pretty good recognition of hardware you plugin to the machine without having to download additional drivers ( note, this is after you manage to successfully remove all errors from a fresh install )

You can click your cookie crumbs to go back in your path while browsing files

CONS

Confusing Version/Pricing scheme

Expensive! $179.00 if you go to futureshop, save 99 cents if you buy it online..??

$279 if you want vista ultimate !!?? Seriously, wtf?

If you are planning to upgrade, be prepared for a very unpleasent experience ( 5 hours and perhaps some phone calls to Microsoft ). Warning – you’ll end up doing a fresh install.

When doing a fresh install, backup everything onto a DVD or external hard drive, things will fail.

Crashing, lots of it, untill you manage to find all your drivers for a fresh install. Be prepared to google till your eyes bleed to find a fix

Bloated, sluggish performance on a farily decent system ( Rating 4.1 with AMD 64 3200, 2 gigs of Ram, 2 x SLI GFORCE 6600GT, 1tb SATA HD )

Reduced performance for gaming

The system constanlty hangs for no reason whatsoever

Blue screens, be prepared to crash often

Absolute mind bogglingy anoying confirmation screens appear for anything you do making sure you want to do what you’re doing. Kind of makes you feel stupid after a while. “Are you sure you want to open notepad?” Yes, I’m fuckin sure, I clicked it to open it, STOP ASKING ME!

Ah yes, you will develop uncontrolable rage and frustration after extended periods of usage. So cut down on coffee consumption, vista and coffee don’t mix well

If you have a Mac, you’ll feel like you wasted your money and your Vista computer will get very lonely because you’ll find yourself enjoying the Mac experience

Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard

PROS

Leopard has 1 version and it’s $129.99, simple

Everything from packaging to install to user experience and the look and feel is amazingly beautiful, simple and works

Mail and Calendar mesh together in such an incredibly useful way, it’s fun to work with

Ichat, sharing desktops and flipping full screen video conferencing is sweet, not to mention animated backgrounds

Upgrading? Put the cd in, answer a few questions, walk away for an hour, come back to a fully upgraded working system

Hardly ever crashes, when it does, head to the mac forum and find the fix in minutes

Everything you need in a computer comes free on a mac ( except for Iwork )

Everything looks better, I mean everything

Managing photos, music and videos is awesome

Everything works the way you think it should work

Learning curve is non existant, it’s a flat line

CONS

No good support for gaming, but that may change in the near future

Some windows apps don’t have mac versions. Although better alternatives are most likely to exist

Conclusion

Quite simply, Mac rocks and if you’re wondering if you should take the plunge, goto a store and try it out and the answer will be simple. The future is Mac, and Windows is in serious trouble.

First off, why would you want to ? Well, your probably a developer trying to fix some bug someone’s having on IE for mac right? Otherwise, Mac users wouldn’t generally search google for a way to put Windows software on a Mac, that’s just silly. You purchased the Mac to get away from that right?

Let me save you some trouble, don’t do it. As you’ve probably already found out Microsoft does not even support IE for Mac and they haven’t in years.
http://www.microsoft.com/mac/products/internetexplorer/internetexplorer.aspx?pid=internetexplorer . Good ol Microsoft lifecycle policies, gotta love it.

So the best thing you can do is advise your client that Microsoft no longer supports development on IE for Mac and for their safety, to avoid vulnerabilities it would be in their best interest to use a browser that comes with Mac and to also update it to the latest version.

If that option runs dry, don’t ruin your Mac, try this instead. There’s a fine gentleman who’s created a nice install to help you get previous versions of IE installed and running with your current IE7 install (* Don’t try to “uninstall” IE7) http://tredosoft.com/Multiple_IE. Thank you Yousif! Install that and test your app/site in these untill you duplicate the error, one of them’s gotta be close tot he mac version right ?

Good luck.

p.s. Can’t you just wait till Mac has better support for gaming, then we won’t need Windows anymore !
