If you are a noobie like me with Digital SLR settings on your camera and are slightly confused in the realm of aperture, shutter speed, f-stop, focal length and other photography mumbo jumbo then this may help you get started. What I did was look at some of flickr’s most excellent photographs and took a peek at the settings their camera’s took the pics at.

Now these are basically different situations I like to find myself taking pictures in such as night shots, landscape, portraits and still life. When you’re in the field, I don’t want to have to pull out my manual to figure out what the best settings are so I print this paper and and check the settings that best fit the situation I’m in.

Hopefully this helps you as you learn the intricate settings of digital photgraphy.

Sorry I didn’t gather sources for these pictures and hope I am not breaking any copyright laws. If so, please contact me and I will remove your photo.

Thanks and enjoy.

  3. This is incredible. I was about to do this for myself, since it seems like a great idea and then viola, you have a list here. Thank you so much. Incredibly helpful.

  4. great guide. very helpful – would have been great to have a small note next to each with what the setting would be useful for!
